RECEIVES DEGREE AT STATE COLLEGE SCHUYLERVILLE Lindley DeGarmo, son of Mrs. Mabel DeGarmo, received the bachelor of arts degree at the 106th annual Commencement exercises held Monday at the New York State for Teachers in Albany. The graduation ceremony was the culmination of a week-end of activities including Torch Night and Baccalaureate services. Mr.

DeGarmo received the B.A. Degree with a major in mathematics and a minor in social studles. Gen. I. S. Hammond Buried at Crown Point The body of Major General Thom88 Stevens Hammond, 67, Illinois National Guard officer, chairman of the Whiting Corporation and a Native of Crown Point, was taken to Crown Point June 17 for interment in Forestdale Cemetery, where military services were conducted at the grave, General Hammond died in Chicago June 15, Among those attending the services were his widow; Mr. and Mrs.

Harry Hammond of Garden City, L. Herrick and Robert Hammond of Chicago; Mrs. Patton and Mrs. E. Button of North Hero, Charles Moore of Brandon, Mr.

and Mrs. Archie Sherlock of Albany; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Snyder and son, Francis, of West Point; Mr. and Mrs.

John Stevens Hammond, of South Norwalk, Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Barker and Robert Barker of Albany, and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Barker of Glens Falls, General Hammond was born at Crown, Point and educated at the University of Michigan, where he won note as an athlete.

He entered the Whiting manufacturers of heavy machinery in 1907 and later became president, general manager and chairman. He joined the Illinois National Guard as a private and served an 'officer in the famed 42nd "Rainbow" Division during World War was retired in 1940 and re-entered the Army in World War II. He became chief of the Chicago Ordnance District and again retired in 1946. When the National Recovery Administration was organized in 1933, General Hammond, then president of the American Foundrymen's Association and the Illinois Manufacturers' Association, WAS put in charge of the issuance of the blue eagle emblem. Later he was executive director of the re-employment program of the N.

R. A. and at the end of the program became chief of the trade association division. He resigned from the N. R.

A. at the end of 1933. General Hammond was a grandson of General John Hammond who, in 1861, organized Company of the 5th New York Cavalry. General Hammond's brother, Col. John Hammond, and Col.

Hammond's son, Orson, who was killed in France during World War II, were also buried in the Hammond plot in Forestdale Cemetery within the past few years. Mrs. G. L. Hutchings of' Miami, is the only surviving daughter of General John Hammond.

Frank Hardick, 9 Hamilton Street, South Glens Falls, and William C. McMurray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Noble McMurray, were married Sunday at P. M.

at the South Glens Falls Methodist Church. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. George Robinson. The bride was given in marriage by her father. Maid of Honor Miss Shirley Salmonson, Fenimore, was the maid of honor, and Frank Hardick, South Glens Falls, was the best man.

Bridesmaids were Miss Catherine Spellacy and Jones: McMurray, Harts The church decorated with baskets of red and white peonies. The wedding march, "I Love You Truly," and? Promise Me" were played on the organ by Miss Carrean Fowler. The bride was attired in the traditional white gown of frosted organdy, and she wore long lacetrimmed mits. Her tulte veil was attached to a seed pearl, tiara. She carried bouquet of yellow tea roses and white carnations.

The gown of yellow dotted Swiss. She maid of honor was attired in a wore a wreath of flowers to which was attached a veil. Her bouquet was of yellow and white roses. The bridesmaid's gowns were similar in design to the bride's. Miss Spellacy's gown was of green dotted Swiss, and Miss Jones' was of pink dotted Swiss.

Both wore corsages of red tea roses. The bride's mother Was attired in a a dress of navy blue with white accessories. The bridegroom's mother wore a blue crepe dress with black abcessories. A reception at the home of the bride followed the ceremony. The couple then left on a motor trip to Canada.

Cranston, supervisor of the Town of Luzerne, and Herrick Osborne, Warren County Superintendent of Highways, spent Monday at the office of the District Engineer in Albany. Vaughn, advisors to the class, gave grief addresses. Tentative plans for the alumni association were discussed thusiasm shown by all attending. Last year's class president, James Flannagan conducted the election of permanent class officers.
