THE POST STAR, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 1930 Telephone Want Ads-2500 Telep Girl May Lose Sight of Eye, Result Stray Shot Miss Ava Hammond Has Eyeball Pierced by Birdshot from Gun of Woodchuck Hunter While Standing Near Car at Home IS DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL Miss Ava Hammond, 30, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ham- mond of Middle Granville, is in the with injuries received when a stray she was standing near a car at her 5:30 o'clock. Officials at the Albany Institution said that she was admmitted to the hospital between 6 and 7 o'clock last night and that her condition was not serious. The attending physician is Dr.

Arthur J. Bedell of Albany. According to information received from Granville last night, Benjamin Rice, of Middle Granville, WAS hunting woodchucks at the residence where he was staying had fired his shotgun in the garden nearby, Miss Hammond, who it was reported last night, being twenty or thirty rods away from the gun, was struck by fragments of the shell, the birdshot piercing her left eyeball. The injured woman wan taken toDr. Sumner of Granville who treated her and was then removed to the Glens Falls- hospital where she was placed under the care of Dr.

Sherwood LeFevre. Dr. LeFevre said last night that Miss Hammond may lose the sight her left eye. Miss Hammond WAS discharged from the Glens Falls hospital yesterday and taken to the Albany physician for examination. As far as could be learned last night Rice was not held by police in connection with the mishap which has been considered as purely accidental.

Miss Hammond, it was said last night, is a well-known school teacher. FIVE HELD IN HOLD-UP CHARGE Saratoga Stable Employee Claims He Was Victim of Attempted Robbery ONE MAN IS STABBED As the sequel of an alleged attempted hold-up in Saratoga Springs Sunday night, five young men were arraigned before City Judge F. Andrew Hall last night and when pleas of not guilty were entered, adjournment was taken until Thursday, morning at 10 o'clock. Joseph Dominick, 29, one of the quintet accused by Ellis, 27, race track stable employes, of attempted robbery, is held in default of $2,000 bail, while the others, James DeRoosla, 14; Frank Natale, 17; George Martino, 17, and Angelo Martino, 17, were released when $1,000 bail was furnished by each. Ellis accused the five of taking him for a ride and attempting to rob him.

Ellis told police that he was forced to enter an auto, driven to the outskirts of the city, but during a scutfle, four of the five fled when Ellis stabbed Dominick with a jack-knife. Ellis drew the knite when a gun was pushed into his side by Dominick, Ellis told the police. Mrs. James Hickey Funeral Tomorrow at Corinth Church Funeral services for Mrs. James Hickey of Corinth, who died at her home in Oak street Monday evening, will be conducted tomorrow morning at the Church of Immaculate Conception, Palmer avenue, at 10 o'clock.

TWO FINES TOTAL $55 FOR BUFFALO MOTORIST Rowley Merriott, of 8 Whitney Place, Buffalo, was fined a total of $55 and sentenced to thirty days in the Warren county jail at Lake George after pleading guilty to a charge of operating an automohile while intoxicated and using abusive language when arraigned before Justice of the Peace James Bonner in Luzerne yesterday, jail sentence was suspended. His operator's and registration licenses were revoked. Merriott was arraigned before the justice of the peace by State Troopers Brown and Reardon stationed at fined $25 and given an alternative of Luzerne, who arrested him. He was twenty-five days in the county Jail on the charge of using abusive language.

His sentence of thirty days was suspended. The fine of $30 WaS for driving while intoxicated. Both fines were paid yesterday afternoon. Wilcox Rowell, of Camden, N. Y.

SARATOGA MAN PARALYSIS VICTIM Duane Scanion Has Fracture of Vertebrae; Companion Also in Hospital CRASH WITH PARKED CAR Halsey Galusha, Randallville, Has Leg Fractured When Kicked by Horse Duane Scanion of Saratoga is still in critical condition in the Glens Falls hospital suffering from fractures of the fourth and fifth verterbrae of the spine causing paralysis of the body from the chest down as the result. Glens of an, Falls automobile -Saratoga acident road yesterday morning about 12.80 o'clock. Frank Martino, 28, of 55 Walnut street, Saratoga, who was injured in the same accident, is in the Saratoga hospital with cuts on the right arm and hand, and possible internal in- juries. Martino's condition was reported as good last night.

'Acording to Martino's report to police, he was riding as a passenger in a car driven- by Howard Dunn, also of Saratoga Springs, toward that city, when the car crashed into a car parked in the highway, without lights. The Packard in which Martino was riding overturned from the force of the collision. In the parked car were Scanlon and a man and woman whose identities were not learned. Louis Cohen, of 344 Lincoln avenue, Lansdowne, living at the Grand Union hotel, Saratoga, was passing by and brought Martino to the Saratoga hospital, and notified the South Glens Falls state police post. One of the men, he, said, describing Scanlon, said he did- not want to be taken to the Saratoga hospital, but Insisted that he be taken to Glens Falls.

At the Saratoga hospital Martino was treated by Dr. Frederic J. Ressegue and Interne Frumkin. Motor Patrolman West and Patrolman Carey notified Mrs. Martino of her husband's injury.

Scanion was taken to the Glens Falls by Louis of Glens where he was treated hospital, by, Dr. Howard C. R. Dunn Hoffman. escaped with minor cuts and bruises.

The condition of Halsey Galusha, of Randallville, who is in the Glens Falls hospital suffering with a fracture of his left leg as a result of being kicked by his horse while he was caring for it at his home Sunday, was reported as comfortable by hospital authorities last night. Mr. Galusha had been visiting his son, Edwin Galusha, and had returned to his home. He was preparing the stable for the horse when the animal suddenly kicked him, inflicting the leg injury. Medical assistance was secured and Mr.

Galusha was brought to the hospital Monday. James Hubbard, 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hubbard, of Petersburg, near Hoosick Falls, who was Injured when a dynamite cap exploded, was discharged from the Mary McClellan hospital in Cambridge where he has been confined since the acident Saturday. The condition of his brother, Isaac, 6, who was more severely injured was reported as improved last night although he is still a patient in the Cambridge institution.
