GEORGE LACKEY TRIES TO MURDER HIS WIFE (Continued from page 1.) never been at peace with each other since they were married twenty years ago. They lived together about four years and then parted and only resumed the relations of husband and wife about six months ago. There are two children in the fam-1 ily, a son, George, twenty years of age, and the daughter, Mabel. During the last half year and while living together in Third street the couple is said to have quarrelled constantly, largely over the fact that the husband was frequently whipping the daughter. About a week ago it is claimed he brutally whipped her and Mrs.

Lackey refused to allow him to enter the house again. She placed his clothes and dinner pail outside on the porch, where they were last night. During yesterday Lackey went to the home and again chastised the daughter. He met his wife as she was leaving for work and told her what he had done and soon after the stabbing resulted. For a number of years Lackey was employed as a canal boatman and well known in this section.

Most of the time ho has made his home with his mother, Mrs. Ellen Lackey, 2 Holman Place, Fort Edward, just below Hudson Falls, where he was arrested as he was about to enter the house about 9 p. m. Constable Ryan notified the local officers immediately after making the capture and Patrolmen Cornelius Kennedy and Dennis Cunningham brought Lackey to the city jail. When seen by The Post-Star reporter after being locked up Lackey refused to talk aside from saying that he had no knowledge of his wife being stabbed and did not know why he was under arrest.

Lackey will be arraigned in city court today to plead to the charge of assault, but on what degree has not yet been fixed as the physicians have made no report to the police department as to the condition of Lackey.
