B4 Friday, May 9, 2008 The Post-Star, Glens Falls, N. Y. OBITUARIES K. Petteys EASTON Gordon K. Petteys, 89, of Eddy Street, died on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.

Born in Easton on Dec.19, 1918, he was the youngest child of James and Nettie Mae (Case) Petteys. Gordon graduated from Greenwich Central School, where he met his future wife, Marion Humphrey, at a basketball game. They were married on Sept. 24, 1939, and made their home in Easton, where they raised eight children. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1989, with family and friends.

A farmer his entire life, Gordon was proud of the fact that, while in his early 20s, he took over the farm from his father. He ran a successful trucking business, bought and sold hay and cattle and could always be seen at the auctions with his trademark unlit cigar in his mouth. He was known for his work ethic and was still driving tractors until just two years ago. Gordon was an avid horseman and was well-known throughout the Harness Racing Community. He owned several successful horses and won many awards, including the Howard Parker Memorial Award for "distinguishing himself in the sport of harness racing." His niece, Linda Flynn, was his trainer for many years.

Gordon delighted in telling stories about days gone by. He was also incredibly proud of his large family and their accomplishments. He loved family gatherings, graduations, weddings and holidays. He was recently awarded lifetime membership in The Masonic Fraternity. In addition to his parents and his wife, Marion, who died on Feb.

4, 1992; he was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Briggs and Alice Flynn; and STATE Buffalo named one of the poorest cities BUFFALO Community advocates in Buffalo are drawing attention to the problem of poverty in upstate's largest city. Recent census numbers rank Buffalo as the nation's. second -poorest big city. The numbers show 42 percent of the city's children live in poverty, and about one-third of its adults. Several community leaders spent the last couple of days living at the poverty level and say the experience was eye-opening.

He is survived by five daughters: Karen (Clifford) Wright, Cheryl (John) Walsh and Michele (Paul) Stewart, all of Greenwich, Tracy (Don) McEachron of Salem and Gina Acee of Sherburne, N.Y.; three sons: Jim (Karen) Petteys of Roy, Utah, Rick (Sue) Petteys of Granville and Stephen Petteys of Greenwich; 21 grandchildren: Kelly Moore, Carla Wright, Kara (Rob) Wachter, Cathy (Eric) Mosher, Michael (Carla) Walsh, Erin Moxley, Brian (Angie) Petteys, Carrie (fiance, Chris Needham) Petteys, Jesse Petteys, Christopher and Bradley Petteys, Sarah, Seth and Amber McEachron, Dr. Alecia (Kris) Van Wagner, Jeffrey and Emily Acee, David (Rene) Bain, Rory (fiancee, Sarah Molinar) Petteys, Daniel Petteys and Cassidy Petteys; three stepgrandchildren: John (Lisa), Rick and Tim (Valerie) Stewart; 17 great-grandchildren, with two additional expected this year; a special niece, Linda Flynn of Greenwich; many nieces, nephews and his wonderful niece and caregiver, Cindy Schneible of Greenwich.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12,2008, at the Bottskill Baptist Church in Greenwich with the Rev. Sandra Spaulding officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwich Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.

THE D'ALLES, Ore. Paul Emil Bialous, 67, of The Dalles, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in Harney County, Ore. Born to Emil and Irma (Willmen) Bialous in Syracuse, N.Y. on Sept. 26, 1940, Paul was the oldest of four children.

Paul Emil Bialous BIALOUS He grew up and graduated high school in Lake George. He attained a B.S. in forestry from Syracuse University in 1962 and moved to Oregon to work for the Bureau of Land Management in Burns. The 1962 Columbus Day wind storm led to a transfer to Coos Bay, to cruise timber. He served in the National Guard.

Paul met Anne Vogt in Coos Bay and they were married in The Dalles on June 11, 1967. After earning his MBA from Oregon State University in 1968, he worked for US Champion Building Products in Eugene and Lebanon, New York City; Waycross, and Stamford, Conn. In 1979 he began 12 years with ITT Plywood in Port Angeles, followed by a couple years with Plum Creek Timber Co. in Seattle, Wash. He later owned his own business in Bellevue consulted for small businesses and finished his career with Seven Associates in Sonora, Calif.

He retired to The Dalles in 1999 to enjoy family, the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Anne, of The Dalles; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Bob Hilt and their children, Cindy, Jesse and Raven of Forks, son and daughter-inlaw, Roger and Susan Bialous and their son, Adam, of Seattle; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and JR Motson of Seattle; brothers, David and Kurt Bialous; and sister, Karen Boltz and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Sara. A graveside service will be held today May 9, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at St.

Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of choice. Joanne Elizabeth Joanne Elizabeth Brablc SYRACUSE Joanne Elizabeth Brable, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, at. Upstate Medical Center. She was born March 14, 1939, the eldest daughter of Joseph F. and Alice (Nemecek) Brable. Joanne attended BRABLC school in Fort Edward, N.Y.

and BRABLC graduated in 1956. She then pursued a nursing degree from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as an RN for 48 years in hospital, nursing home and instructional capacities and retired from her nursing career in 2006. She was a devoted mom and family member. She enjoyed caring for her patients and loved gardening, reading and her cats.

She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Fruehan of San Diego, and Kara Eckel; her beloved granddaughter, Kaitlyn of Syracuse; two brothers, Jo- seph of Glens Falls and Edward of Foxboro, two sisters and their husbands, Carol Sue and Pat DeVivo of Port St. Lucie, and Katherine and Robert Trackey of Middleboro, nieces, Alicia, Brianne and Stephanie; and nephews, James and Christopher. Family received friends at St. Therese Church at 112 Lahcaster Place in Syracuse from 9:30 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7.

A Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Joanne's name to St. Therese Church, 112 Lancaster Place, Syracuse, NY 13210. Burial will be in the family plot in Fort Edward, N.Y., later at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Dewitt Memorial Funeral Home, Syracuse, N.Y.
