New York State collects $500 million in motor fuel taxes annually, she said. One percent of this, or $5 million results from sales at marinas.

Little hopes to designate half of that $2)4 million annually to a fund. Communities could apply for allocations from the fund. -The amount lost to the highway fund could make up for itself in time, Little said. With the money used to improve boat launch sites, she explained, the investment could put more boaters on the lakes who, in turn, buy more motor fuel.
