29, 1977) at Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness. He was a U.S. postal carrier in Diamond Point and Bolton Landing for the past 30 years. Mr. Palgut served as sergeant and secretarytreasurer of the Warren County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol.

He was a former member of the Bolton Central School Board of Education, a member of the Warren County Horsemen's Association and Bolton Landing Post, American Legion. Mr. Palgut operated the Double Left Dude Ranch for several years. He is survived by his wife, Marian; a daughter, Mrs. George (Kathleen) Coombs of Littleton, a son, Jeffrey of Pompano Beach, two sisters, Mrs.

At a press 'conference Monday, John Dudek, chairman of the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors, and Saratoga Springs Supervisor Frederick J. McNeary, chairman of the social services committee, announced a goal of 25,000 signatures for a county wide petition drive urging welfare reform. They are asking the President to move up his timetable for reform of the nation's welfare system from 1980 to 1978.

Seeley FORT ANN James M. Seeley, 77, a former resident of Catherine Street, Fort Ann, died Monday (Aug. 29, 1977) at Glens Falls Hospital. Born in Ogdensburg, he was a veteran of World War I serving in the Army Air Corps. Mr.

Seeley was a senior stationary engineer for the state Department of Correctional Services, retiring from the Coxsackie Correctional Facility. He was a life member of Raymond W. ELLIOTT LAWTON Elliott Lawton; Engineer CLEVERDALE Elliott John Lawton, 72, of Brayton Road, Cleverdale, a researcher who pioneered in the effects of radiation on plastic, died Saturday (Aug. 27, 1977) at Glens Falls Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Lawton was graduated from the University of Missouri in 1928 and received his MS degree from Union College in 1933.

He was a research engineer at the General Electric research laboratory. His important research projects began with high voltage electronic tubes. Mr. Lawton became an expert in the detection of leaks in high vacuum systems. During World War II, he worked on the proximity fuse, the airdropped, target- seeking torpedo and the Manhattan Project.

Mr. Lawton was a fellow of the American Physics Society and a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 1966, he retired to Lake George where he became a trustee of the Harrisena Community Church. Mr. Lawton served as chairman of the Lake George Association committee for the preservation of the Dunhams Bay wetlands.

He was a member of the Glens Falls Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Grace; two daughters, Mrs. Townsend F. (Rosemary) MacCoun of Schenectady and Mrs. Donald W.

(Ann) Read of Hamilton, and four grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Harrisena Community Church, Ridge Road, by the Rev. Lamont D. Robinson, pastor.

Interment will be in Seeley Cemetery, Town of Queensbury. There will be no calling hours. The club will present a second demonstration at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls at 8 p.m. Sept. 12 for the Welcome Wagon Club.

William McLean; Designed TV Sets William C. McLean, 87, of 32 Garfield Glens Falls, died Monday (Aug. 29, 1977) at his home after a long illness. Mr. McLean designed the a creation combining parts of a ship, locomotive, airplane and helicopter used in the NBC television show, "Howdy Doody." He also designed other sets for the show.

Born in Dundee, Scotland, Mr. McLean was a graduate of the Dundee School of Naval Architecture. He was employed by Gibbs and Cox, naval architects in New York City. The widower of Esther Johnson-Smith McLean, he had lived in Glens Falls for James Venner SCHROON LAKE James Venner, 67, of Schroon Lake, died Monday (Aug. 29, 1977) at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh, after a long illness.

He worked as a laborer for the Town of Schroon. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Minnie Stalker of Morrisonville; a half Mrs. Addie Ford of Schroon Lake; three brothers, Earl, Edgar and Arthur, all of Schroon Lake, and several nephews and Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Provencher Funeral Home, North Avenue, by the Rev.

Richard Forrest MIDDLE GRANVILLE Richard Forrest, Middle Granville, 'died unexpectedly Monday (Aug. 29, 1977) at Emma Laing Stevens Hospital. He is survived by his wife, the former Beulah Phillips; four sons, Edward, William, Wilbur and Henry; a daughter, Miss Mary Forrest, all of Middle Granville; three brothers, Arthur and Basil, both of Brandon, and Alvin of Orwell, a sister, Mrs. Lena Fay of Crown Point, and several nieces and nephews.
